The IRS recently notified tax software vendors that a corrected schedule D tax worksheet had been posted for 2018.  Due to an error in the original worksheet some taxpayers may have overpaid their taxes. The error only affected a small portion of taxpayers that reported a capital gain.  Those who were impacted by the error were taxed at a higher tax rate than they should have been based on the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

Taxpayers affected are instructed to wait for further guidance from the IRS. You can find out more by visiting the IRS website at www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/error-in-tax-calculation-in-schedule-d-tax-worksheet-form-1040
